Chapter 485: Since Sejun-nim Is Ugly, This Is the Least I Can Do...

TL: Hanguk

Silver Tower, 82nd Floor.

[Registration for the Grape Wine Drinking Competition has closed.]

[Participants, please gather below the altar.]

[The competition will begin in 1 minute.]

"Prepare yourselves!"

"Yes! Wind, halt!"

At the command of Kwin, the Tower Farmer of the Silver Tower, other wind mages assisted Kwin in weakening the surrounding wind.

As the wind calmed, the residents of the Silver Tower gathered below the altar to participate in the competition.

[The competition is starting.]

Boom!

With the message, a giant wine bottle in the shape of a grape, about 20 meters tall, appeared before the altar, filled with purple grape wine.

Simultaneously, wine glasses filled with grape wine appeared in front of the participants.

Gulp, gulp.

The participants quickly began to drink.

Each emptied glass was immediately refilled with wine, and the wine in the giant bottle steadily decreased.

The residents weren’t drinking to get drunk, but to survive.

Wine is like a high-calorie food.

They were trying to consume as many calories as possible in a short time to lessen the burden on the wind mages.

When the giant wine bottle had been emptied and refilled about 10 times,

"What?! I didn't like the look in your eyes just now!"

"What?! Your look pissed me off even more!"

A few residents, drunk, started picking fights.

But

"If you’ve finished drinking, stop being noisy and go sleep."

Thwack.

Zzz.

The residents causing trouble were knocked out and put to sleep by the mad Kwin.

Thanks to a few examples being made, the rest of the residents mostly drank quietly before heading down to the caves to sleep.

I'd like to feel the satisfaction of hitting someone...

Kwin sipped his wine while scanning the crowd with a crazed look in his eyes, hoping to find someone he could hit again.

Black Tower, 99th Floor.

[Grape Wine Drinking Competition Ranking]

1st - Minotaur King (1001L) [Black Tower, 99th Floor]

2nd - Pink-fur (1000L) [Black Tower, 99th Floor]

3rd - Uren (700L) [Black Tower, 99th Floor]

4th - Ulrich (200L) [Black Tower, 99th Floor]

···

..

.

Moo!

Kuoooong!

The Minotaur King and Pink-fur battled for first place.

And

"Hehehe. Do you want this?"

"Oh! Thank you, Uren-hyung! Guys, bow to Hyung!"

"Hello, Uren-hyung!"

Third-place Uren, who was turning nearby objects into gold and giving them to the red fox Bayon and his subordinates.

So, Uren had that kind of drunken quirk.

"Hehehe."

"Puhuhut."

Park Sejun and Park Theo snickered mischievously as they watched Uren.

[Hehe, hehe.]

Flamie, sitting on Sejun's shoulder, mimicked Sejun’s laughter.

Kuehehehe. Kueng!

[Hehehe. It's delicious!]

Cuengi, seated with his butt on Sejun’s lap, was happily drinking something. It was grape juice Sejun had made for the underage Cuengi, who couldn’t participate in the competition.

Kkihihit. Kking! Kking!

[Hehe. Tasty! Everyone, eat up!]

I should ask for more later!

In front of Sejun, Blackie and his subordinates, who had just woken up, were busy eating roasted and dried sweet potato snacks.

"Blackie, eat slowly. I’ll give you more."

Kking?! Kking!

[Really?! Then give me some now!]

"Sure."

As Sejun brought over a giant basket full of roasted sweet potato snacks made by Sejun No. 1,

Kkihihit. Kking!

[Hehe. Guys, hide it away!]

Blackie pretended to eat while secretly stashing the sweet potato snacks with his subordinates into their secret storage.

'I knew it.'

Come on. I give you these all the time, so why are you hoarding them?

Sejun watched Blackie, feeling a little confused.

But, whatever. As long as you’re happy.

Giving up on understanding, Sejun turned his attention back to watching the competition.

Sejun drank some of the wine and then decided to drop out of the competition.

The wine tasted fine, but it couldn’t compare to the wine made from Podori’s grapes.

And it was too difficult to rank within the top 100, so he only drank enough to feel good.

If he gets drunk and creates and issues, it might affect his condition tomorrow.

Sejun was preparing in his own way to meet Aileen tomorrow.

As Sejun sat peacefully with his companions, watching the competition, he made his own preparations to meet Aileen the next day.

Meanwhile, Sejun’s shadow minions were diligently delivering the snacks made by Sejun No. 1 to the competition participants.

With the rankings nearly determined, the participants had started mixing grape wine with Samyangju and continued their drinking party.

A little while later,

“Alright, everyone, time to go sleep.”

Sejun, after watching the drinking party, led his group back home.

He went to bed earlier than usual.

‘I need to sleep early if I’m going to see Aileen tomorrow.’

That way, his face would look a little less tired...

Though he didn’t want to admit it, compared to Aileen’s beauty, his own face was quite a bit ugly.

No, it wasn’t that he looked that bad, it was just that Aileen’s radiance made him look worse by comparison...

With these thoughts, Sejun lay down on the bed with his companions.

Kuehehehe. Kueng!

[Hehehe. I’m so excited to sleep with Dad!]

Cuengi snuggled up to Sejun’s side, smiling happily.

Today, Sejun had decided to sleep with Cuengi to let Pink-fur drink to her heart’s content.

As everyone lay down,

“Vice Chairman Theo, can you give me a massage...?”

Sejun asked Theo with a slightly embarrassed voice.

“Puhuhut. Great Hybrid Chairman Park, are you finally admitting that your face is ugly, meow?!"

“Shut up. Just give me the massage.”

“Puhuhut. Leave it to me, Vice Chairman Theo, meow! I'll smooth out your wrinkles and make your face less ugly, meow!"

Squish, squish.

Theo excitedly began massaging Sejun’s face.

Kueng!

[Cuengi will help massage Dad too!]

Cuengi also started massaging Sejun’s body.

[Hehe. I’ll help too! Yap!]

Flamie used its purifying flames to remove Sejun’s impurities while softly patting him with its leaf.

Kkihihit. Kking?

[Hehe. Is this how you do it? Guys, let’s go!]

Blackie pressed Sejun’s body a few times with his front paws before running around on top of Sejun with his subordinates.

After some time passed

Kkurorong.

Kkirorong.

Eomrorong.

...

..

.

Cuengi and Blackie family fell asleep.

At that moment,

Squish, squish.

“Chairman Park, since my skin is made of dragon skin, am I a hybrid too, meow?”

Theo, who was massaging Sejun’s face diligently, asked with sparkling eyes.

“Of course. Our Vice Chairman Theo is also a hybrid too. Hybrid Theo Park.”

“Puhuhut. I’m so excited, meow! From now on, I am the great hybrid Chairman Park’s right-hand man, the deadly dragon-clawed, golden hybrid cat Theo Park, meow!

As Theo rejoiced at having one more thing in common with Sejun,

‘If I graft onto other branches, can I become hybrid Flamie too?’

‘Pip-pip. I want dragon skin too... I want to become a hybrid Paespaes...'

Flamie and Paespaes were carefully listening to their conversation.

A little later

“Meoww...”

Cu... Cu...

Theo, half-asleep, began to lose strength in his front paws.

Thump.

Sejun lifted Theo and placed him on his lap.

“Goodnight, Vice Chairman Theo. Cuengi, Blackie, goodnight too.”

After stroking each of his companions

Kuhoror.

Sejun fell asleep.

While Sejun was sleeping,

Moo...

[I lost...]

Kuoooong!

(I won!)

Thud.

The competition ended as Pink-fur barely defeated the Minotaur King and fell asleep.

[The rewards for places 1st to 100th in the Grape Wine Drinking Competition are being distributed.]

The rewards began to be handed out.

The reward was...

[Golden Grape Wine of Explosive Magic Power]

This wine increased magic power by 30 when consumed and had the effect of amplifying magic power by 100% for 1 minute.

Gulp.

As the participants who received rewards stared at the Golden Grape Wine of Explosive Magic Power swallowing their saliva

-Everyone stop!

-Hand over the rewards quickly!

-Don’t even think about sneaking any away.

-If you do, you'll be in big trouble!

The dragons of the Four Dragons Council appeared and began collecting the rewards on behalf of Sejun.

The dragons had called Sejun a 'hybrid', deeply upsetting him.

To make amends, they agreed to collect the rewards from the Grape Wine Drinking Competition for Sejun, who had gone to bed early.

As the dragons continued gathering the rewards

-Huh?! We're missing one!

-What's this? Are you daring to insult us?!

-If you get caught, it’s 100 years of punishment for each bottle!

When one of the reward wine bottle was missing, the dragons roared furiously at the participants.

At that moment

"Great... Great dragons! I know who has the remaining one!"

Terrified, Bayon desperately shouted to the dragons.

-Who is it?! Who dared to disobey us?!

-It’s... someone called Kwin from the 82nd floor of the Silver Tower...

[99th place - Kwin (70L) [Silver Tower, 82nd Floor]]

Bayon showed them the ranking of the 99th place finisher in the Grape Wine Drinking Competition, Kwin.

-Damn... why the Silver Tower?

-Do we have to go there?

-We promised Sejun.

-It's annoying, but we don’t have a choice.

So the Four Dragons Council members decided to go to the Silver Tower.

-But who’s going?

-Obviously, it’s Kaiser, who was the first one to call Sejun a hybrid.

-What?! You guys nodded in agreement too! You’re worse for agreeing!

-What are you talking about?! We deliberately kept quiet, but you were the one who brought it up, so we nodded without thinking!

-Yeah!

-Kaiser, you’re the worst!

-Damn it...

After a heated argument, Kaiser ended up being the one who had to go to the Silver Tower to retrieve the reward.

***

Entrance to the Divine Realm.

"Hmm... which way should I go?"

[Seed Shop Headquarters] [Combat Shop Headquarters]

Dark, the God of Darkness, stood at a crossroads, pondering his choice.

Before being sealed, Dark had been friendly with the Gods of War and naturally wanted to head to the Combat Shop Headquarters.

But then there was Park Sejun, the Tower Farmer of the Black Tower. He had enslaved six of the nine tower farmers... and two of them were dragons!

And Why was Sejun so close with Kaiser, Kellion, Ramter, and Tier? Oh, right, through drinking...

Huh?! Was that?!Fenrir, the god hunting wolf and 1st Seat of the Apostle of Destruction, the one who sealed me, in the tower?! Why is he there?!

What the hell?! And Krueger and Alice are here too... How many Apostles of Destruction are around?!

As memories of his sealed past and the lingering thoughts in his heart combined, Dark fell into deep contemplation.

There was no future at the Combat Shop Headquarters, but looking at Sejun... the future was at the Seed Shop.

And besides...

I also want a temple!

"I'm sorry, guys."

Dark betrayed the combat gods and headed towards the Seed Shop Headquarters.

***

The next morning.

"Hmm, hmm, hmm."

As soon as Sejun opened his eyes, he started humming.

Today was the day he would finally meet Aileen.

"Let's go!"

I'll definitely endure today!

As Sejun shouted with enthusiasm and got up to go outside,

Whiirr!

[Good morning, Sejun-nim!]

Sweetie spotted Sejun from afar and flew quickly towards him.

"Hey, Sweetie! Have you already finished your training?!"

Whiirr! Whiirr!

[Yes! Sejun-nim, here! I made this for you!]

Sweetie handed Sejun a shimmering, silver-colored jelly.

[Perfect Platinum Royal Jelly]

In the past, the Poisonous Queen Bee had given Sejun an Imperfect Platinum Royal Jelly.  (TL: Previously, it was translated as 'Incomplete Perfect Platinum Royal Jelly', which is also a correct translation. However, now that I have more context, the correct word in this situation would be 'imperfect', as the newer version is called 'Perfect Platinum Royal Jelly'.)

But this one says 'Perfect'?

Excited by the name of the royal jelly, Sejun quickly checked its options.

[Perfect Platinum Royal Jelly]

→ The Poisonous Queen Bee, Sweetie, meticulously crafted and refined various honey jellies to ensure her master’s successful date, eventually completing this miraculous Royal Jelly.

→ The honey jelly has been refined, enhancing both taste and nutrition.

→ Upon consumption, all stats increase by 50, and defensive talents are awakened.

→ Upon consumption, for one day, you will emit an attractive pheromone toward your desired romantic interest.

→ Creator: Poisonous Queen Bee Sweetie

→ Shelf Life: 100 years

→ Grade: SS

For her to go this far for me...

"Thank you, Sweetie,"

Sejun expressed his gratitude while stroking Sweetie’s back.

Whiirr! Whiirr!

[Yes! With this attractive pheromone, you’ll totally win over Aileen-nim’s heart!]

Since Sejun-nim is ugly, this is the least I can do…

Sweetie swallowed her last words, silently cheering him on.

A little while later,

“Aileen, come on over.”

With everyone’s support, Sejun met with Aileen.

TL Note:

Hi, I'm Hanguk, the translator of this novel.

I haven't commented on the slave part that many people have issue with, but here’s my take, and why my manhwa is different.

I won’t criticize Korea, but every society has its own issues and perspectives, which authors and writers often use to highlight those issues or sometimes as a way to create sarcastic comedy.

If you check the comment section on Munpia, where I read and translate this novel from, you won’t find anyone complaining about the slave issue.

As for why the manhwa is being adapted differently, there are many reasons, but the main one is that it's being created for both domestic and international audiences. Because of this, they have to modify or remove parts that don’t align with international values or might portray Korea in a negative light.

No country wants to present itself poorly, so the slave part and any other potentially problematic content will definitely be cut.

Why do you think many novels aren’t translated into English, and why are many Korean authors/writers against the English translation of their works?

While it’s true that they could earn extra income by licensing their novels, and they have started doing so, albeit slowly, it’s because many of these novels contain themes that aren’t suitable for international audiences, whether it’s patriotism, themes relevant only to domestic readers, or even outright racism. There are other factors but it is also one of them.

So, I understand why some people complain about that part, but they often forget that they were never the intended audience for this novel. That’s all there is to it.

I posted the above message in Discord, and I'm adding it here because I want to say that the same applies to the 'Sejun is Ugly' theme in this chapter or possibly in future chapters as well.

People are getting way too sensitive and not understanding the full context of views outside of their own, and it's getting out of hand. I love the translations and get my daily dose of happiness when reading them, this is from a xillennial aged proud black woman.

I get it. Cultures have different views on beauty or whats normal.

As a westerner myself, it's annoying as hell that people with nothing to do keep trying to make taboos out of any mildly offensive word or topic just to pretend like they care about the fragile feelings of others. If you think the medium isn't for you, then don't consume it, it's always been that simple. But now we have too many self-important nobodies constantly trying to run the show and dictate what's appropriate.

As an American the nationalism can be jarring sometimes when reading Asian work same with racism but as an African American you just learn to keep moving and enjoy the good stuff. An this story is extremely tame from some of the other Korean and Chinese stories I have read

Mister author don’t feel bad we know the humour I am from India and cooperate slaves are everywhere in the world so it’s common people should take it with a pinch of salt don’t feel bad

The nationalism isn’t even the worst I’ve seen in a Korean series. I don’t find it odd because the US does it too, just in different areas/ways. Slavery is different in every culture and has different implications. It was clear what it meant in this series and I could overlook it in this story. Thanks for starting this interesting dialog.

I can live with the themes that don't generally suit international audiences. As long as the story is fun, I'm more than happy to shut off my liberal 'Murican sensibilities for anything other than rape and hyper-violent slavery stuff (not to be confused with the mostly indentured servitude style slavery in this series). Nationalism and domestic focus is not terribly unexpected in any writing, even if it isn't as in your face as it can be in Korean works. The peoples of every nation will have their quirks, especially so for those with long and/or embattled histories. That's just how humans are. I'm just happy that there are translators willing to spend the time and effort to provide me with access to a whole set of entertainment that I'd miss out on. Sure, I can MTL, but that is painful and I'm extremely lazy. I consider new stories from different perspectives than I get when reading most English native works to be very win, especially so as a life-long voracious reader. Read a few thousand sci-fi and fantasy works, and new becomes extremely alluring.

I always thought that the slavery part was critique of modern corporate slavery, not the historic black slave trade americans are so sensitive and miffy about...

dont worry about those dumb ones in the comment section. And the Sejun is ugly joke is just comic relief. We all know Sejun would be just someone from the mid crop of Korea. keep on dreaming that Koreans look like BTS or EXO. More than half of Koreans look like Kim Jung Un or something similar. and to the guys here in the comments. lets be real. Most races had a past of being a slave or slaving another. So kindly shut the fuck up about a fictional story. No slaves in our past had better working conditions than what is portrayed here in the novel. Most slaves either eat ones and work more than 12hours a day. Not to mention Sejuns rule that everyone works around 8hours and gets to eat 3x a day is way better than any slaves in any novel that isnt a party member or party of the MCs group. pretty sure we had read worse ones than this.

It always baffles me how people will complain about how stories are made but still continue to read. I mean, of course there are gonna be some stuff like patriotism and other core values depending what country the story comes from, especially when related to Earth in some way. Hell, even Hollywood does it, everything happens in the USA, heroes are from the USA as well, as if there was an unspoken agreement that all monsters and aliens must arrive in the USA first x) Nobody has to like it, but personally I try to enjoy the story by tuning out the political part, like countries don't matter what matters is the plot or people. At the end of the day, it is still fiction and made for our entertainment

I'm not surprised or upset at the slave aspect. Let's not forget that Sejun probably only recognizes most of the beings he does as friends because of Theo and the rabbits. Under normal circumstances, if he'd been a regular hunter, he'd be with other humans hunting many of his current friends as monsters to get stronger like all tower residents. Perhaps it's because they're all from different worlds, but it's been stated that even older resident species still kill others for power. So the system of the tower makes others potential resources as much as potential friends.

Like I always do when watch anime or read some mangas and manhwa, just ignore my native Brazilian and Chile part to understand how things work in some ways in another country, like giving a buissness card to someone in Japan is always with both hands, and the OK sign in Brazil has the oposite meaning

Chris SizemoreOct 9, 2024
The slavery isn't what bothers me, it is Theo. Theo is evil. Theo takes everything his golden paw is attracted to. Theo looks for every opportunity to steal from others. Theo always pushes to get more out of every deal. If you offer him a car for free, he'll demand three. It doesn't matter that he gives it all to Sejun. What is Sejun's is naturally Theo's as well. Theo is greed personified. Yes, Theo's greed helps other people. It also makes them slaves as a form of help. Making them a slave was done out of greed, not out of a sense of trying to help the other person.

Sejun is ugly theme – i feel it is just humorous. I understand calling someone ugly on their face in real life would not fare well. Not to mention, it worsens one’s own perception about people and reality if one judges on appearance too much. But it is definitely humorous in this novel.
